Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The West Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police arrested Murtala Ilyas, a drug dealer from Aceh, who exploited the election period to smuggle 110 kilogram of methamphetamine.
"Murtala tried to take advantage of the election situation for drug transactions," explained Superintendent Indrawienny Panjiyoga, the Narcotics Director of the West Jakarta Police, on Friday (8/3/24).
This tactic came to light after Murtala attempted to ship a 110 kg package of methamphetamine on February 13, 2024, the day before the election. The suspect audaciously used a mosque as a venue for methamphetamine transactions, opting for it as a disguise to evade suspicion. "To blend in, he wore a traditional cap as if going to pray at a mosque in Medan, North Sumatra, on Gatot Subroto Street. The transaction occurred in the early morning, using a car," Chief Indrawienny added. Murtala was arrested with evidence of 110 kg of methamphetamine as his six accomplices - SD (44), AN (42), MR (42), ML (29), WP (24), and RD (22) - were caught during the drug distribution process in Malaysia, Aceh, Medan, and Jakarta. The suspects face charges under Law No. 35 of 2009 on narcotics, which carries the heaviest penalty of death or life imprisonment.
