Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. Riau Islands Regional Police are intensifying their crackdown on thuggery through the Blue Light Patrol initiative across Batam City.

“Blue Light Patrol uses precision motorcycle units to monitor strategic areas and deter street-level crime, especially thuggery,” said Riau Islands Police’s Samapta Director Senior Superintendent. Joko Adi Nugroho on Monday (12/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Samapta is a unit within the Indonesian National Police (INP) responsible for general policing duties, including traffic control, guarding, escorting, patrolling, and initial response to public order disturbances.. The unit is also tasked with crowd control

The patrols cover key areas such as Gajah Mada Street, Tunas Industrial Park, Cipta Land, Hotel 01 area, and Sarana Industrial Point—locations deemed vulnerable during night hours.

“All patrol vehicles activate their blue warning lights, ensuring police presence is visible to both residents and potential offenders,” added Senior Superintendent Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, the Riau Islands Police Head of Pubblic Relations.

The initiative targets public hubs, industrial zones, ports, and residential areas. Police also monitor public behavior to anticipate legal violations.
