inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Regional Police held the 2026 Bhayangkara Sampan and Ketinting Rowing Competition at the Beton Port in Kampung Tua Tanjung Riau, Batam City, on Sunday (6/21/2026).
This event was held to commemorate the 80th Bhayangkara Day in 2026.
The Head of the event's organizing committee, Head of the Water and Air Patrol Sub-Directorate of the Riau Islands Regional Police Water and Air Security Directorate, Police Assistant Superintendent Efendri Ali, stated that apart of to celebrating the 80th Bhayangkara Day, the event also served as a means to strengthen ties between the police and coastal communities through traditional sports based on maritime culture.
He reported that this year's event saw an increase in participation, with 106 participants, consisting of 18 ketinting competitors, 34 men's sampan rowing teams, and 10 women's sampan rowing teams.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Tanjung Riau Fishermen's Association expressed his appreciation for the event, which he considered not only a sporting and entertainment event but also an effort to preserve Malay maritime culture. This activity has become a part of the coastal community's identity for generations.
The Vice Chief of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Brigadier General Anom Wibowo, stated that this activity was not just a routine agenda, but also a commitment to preserving and safeguarding the culture of coastal communities and strengthening relations between the police and the community.
He stated that the event also included social service activities, such as the distribution of 250 basic food packages and health services.
"Cooperation between all parties is crucial in maintaining the sustainability of the fishing community's livelihoods amidst the development of coastal areas, as well as ensuring that their living space and livelihoods are maintained," explained Anom.
He assured that the police will continue to be present in the community. On the other hand, the public is urged to maintain public order and security and use the 110 hotline service.
