Inp.polri.go.id - Ternate. A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team evacuated three Singaporean hikers on Friday (8/5/2026) after they became trapped during an eruption at Mount Dukono, North Halmahera.
The hikers, identified as Toh Yu Ming Eugene (30), Ong Shilin Selene (37), and Phoebe Lim (33), were rescued in stable condition.
“The three Singaporean hikers are conscious and stable. They sustained minor injuries from volcanic ash exposure and exhaustion,” said Rudin Jasrodji, the Head of the Tobelo SAR Unit, as cited by antaranews.com.
The group managed to begin a self-evacuation before being met by rescuers who escorted them to a monitoring post for medical treatment.
The operation was part of a larger effort to rescue 20 hikers caught in the volcanic activity. SAR teams faced challenging conditions, including slippery terrain and heavy ash fall.
Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid the danger zone, as Mount Dukono remains highly active with ongoing potential for volcanic material discharge.
