Inp.polri.go.id- Ternate. A Search and Rescue (SAR) team evacuated victims from the sinking vessel KM Alis Mulia in Halmahera waters on Sunday (14/12/2024).
A total of 192 people were onboard, with one confirmed fatality.
The ship, carrying hundreds of passengers and agricultural goods, was en route from East Halmahera to Tobelo, North Halmahera, North Maluku, according to antaranews.com.
The incident occurred near Tagalaya Island, where the ship, loaded with copra, ran aground. Authorities were alerted by the Tobelo Port Authority (KUPP) that the vessel was in distress. SAR teams from Ternate, assisted by local responders, were deployed to the site.
By 11:55 PM, 16 survivors had been safely evacuated to Tobelo Port. A total of 191 people, including women and children, were rescued. However, one passenger remains missing.
As of 1.19 am local time, the KM Alis Mulia had sunk, approximately 50 meters from the shore.
The search continues for the missing passenger, identified as Abdul Waris Hadi (80), with efforts resuming at 7.30 am on Sunday.
