Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. A joint task force involving the Damai Cartenz  Task Force and the Yahukimo Sub-regional Police engaged in a firefight with an armed criminal group (KKB) on Wednesday during a routine patrol in Seredala District, Papua Mountains. I

nsurgents ambushed the security convoy from two directions along the Trans Papua Road, striking a tactical vehicle before retreating into the forest. Following the skirmish, officers cleared several road blockades made of fallen trees and recovered abandoned supplies, including ammunition clips, tactical gear, and mobile phones, though no casualties were reported.

"The joint team returned fire immediately after our tactical vehicle was targeted to suppress the attack and ensure personnel safety," said Inspector General Faizal Ramadani, the Head of Operations for the Damai Cartenz Task Force, on Thursday (16/4/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

Investigations suggest the regional insurgent command, Kodap XVI Yahukimo, had orchestrated these security disturbances following a traditional ceremony on 11 April 2026. Authorities have now intensified patrols around the Dekai area to prevent further ambushes and provide security for local residents. The seized evidence is currently being analyzed to track the movement of the armed group within the forest region.
