The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the magnitude 3.6 tremor at 11.44 am. The small quake originated at a very shallow depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located roughly 89 kilometers southeast of Morowali. Because shallow tremors can sometimes be felt more noticeably on the surface, officials released the preliminary data rapidly to keep the public informed.
