inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police confirmed that the security and public order situation in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains Province, has gradually returned to normal. This was confirmed following the recent conflict between community groups.

Joint personnel from the Jayawijaya Sub-regional Police and the Papua Regional Police Mobile Brigade remain on standby at seven strategic locations in Wamena City to maintain security. This measure is a preventative measure to provide a sense of security to the community and anticipate potential disturbances to public order and security.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Cahyo Sukarnito, stated that conditions in Wamena continue to show positive developments, and community activities are returning to normal.

"The situation in Wamena is gradually returning to normal. People have begun to resume their daily activities, including worship, office work, and educational activities," explained Cahyo, Monday (5/18/2026).

Cahyo explained that recovery efforts were carried out through intensive coordination between the local government, security forces, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and all elements of the community.
