Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Immigration announced on Friday (30/8/2024) that children as young as six can now use auto gates at Indonesian airports. 

Previously, the autogate system was only available to those 14 and older at Soekarno-Hatta and I Gusti Ngurah Rai airports, according to antaranews.com.

Director General Silmy Karim highlighted that advancements in face recognition technology now enable accurate identification of six-year-olds. This change aims to streamline travel for families by allowing younger children to bypass manual immigration checks.

Currently, nearly 200 auto gates are installed at high-traffic immigration points like Soekarno-Hatta and Ngurah Rai airports. The system, which integrates face recognition with border management, allows passengers to pass through immigration quickly, typically within 15 to 25 seconds.

Director General Silmy noted that similar systems in other countries, like Singapore, have successfully included young children, and Indonesia's adoption of this practice reflects a commitment to enhancing travel services.
