Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf announced plans to finalize a government regulation offering concessions and incentives for people with disabilities during the World Braille Day celebration in Central Jakarta on Sunday (5/1/2025).
“We are currently finalizing a regulation to provide concessions for people with disabilities,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The regulation aims to ensure people with disabilities can access basic services and enjoy equal opportunities. Minister Saifullah emphasized that individuals with disabilities have the same rights as others, including social protection and societal respect.
Government data shows that 7% of Indonesia’s population, or about 11.3 million people, live with disabilities, with 1.9 million classified as having medium or severe disabilities.
“This is our collective responsibility to ensure their access to basic rights,” the minister said, adding that the initiative aligns with Indonesia’s 2025-2045 Long-term Development Plan and the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
Law No. 8 of 2016 on People with Disabilities serves as the foundation for these efforts.
Arief Pribadi, the leader of Rumah Aspirasi Tunanetra Indonesia, an advocacy group for the blind, urged the minister to further improve conditions for the disabled community.
