Inp.polri.go.id - Manokwari. Sorong Sub-regional Police has set up checkpoints at the Eduard Domine Osok  Airport and Sorong seaport to prevent the 42 escaped prisoners from leaving the region. "This is our effort to prevent the 42 prisoners from leaving the Southwest Papua region," said Sorong Police Chief Senior Superintendent Happy Perdana Yudianto on Wednesday (10/1/2024) At the Sorong airport, police officers, together with the Sorong airport  aviation security officers, guarded at the departure gate to check the identity of each passenger wishing to leave. For this checkpoint operation, Sorong Police deployed 35 officers to assist the airport security personnel. In addition to the checkpoint at the Sorong Airport, the Sorong Police have implemented a similar measure at Sorong Port. "There are officers at every entrance to the airport and port to check the identity of every passenger," Chief Happy explained. Checkpoints are being set up in Maybrat, South Sorong, Raja Ampat and Tambrauw in their respective areas, antaranews.com reported. "I am confident that the escaped prisoners are still in the Sorong area. However, they will try to escape from Sorong," he said. The police is working together with the Sorong Prison to identify the escaped prisoners for the wanted list. "After their wanted status is determined, we will distribute their photos at checkpoints such as airports and seaports," Chief Happy asserted. He urged the prisoners who are still at large to turn themselves and their family members to hand them over to the authorities. Of the 53 inmates who escaped from the Sorong Prison on Sunday, 11 inmates have been arrested. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
