Inp.polri.go.id - Manokwari. The West Papua Regional Police will assess the security aspects of 31 polling stations in Maybrat regency.
West Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir said that the police would ensure the security of each polling station after coordinating with the West Papua Election Commission (KPUD).
"If the KPU plans to relocate the TPS for security reasons, we will discuss it," he said on Wednesday (11/1/2024)
Chief Johnny asserted that the West Papua Police, together with the XVIII/Kasuari Military Command, deployed the troops to maintain the safety of the Maybrat community to exercise their rights to vote in the 2024 elections, antaranews.com reported.
In addition to the KPU, he said, the West Papua Police have communicated closely with the Maybrat administration following the attack by the armed criminal group (KKB) some time ago.
As a result of the incident, several residents of Maybrat decided to evacuate to safer places. At present, the the police and the military are working to evacuate them gradually.
"Some evacuees have returned. TNI/Polri personnel and local administration continue to try to return the residents to their villages," Chief Johny explained.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the KPUD West Papua, Andarias Kambu, said that 31 polling stations in five districts in Aifat Raya would be moved to Kumurkek, the capital of Maybrat regency because Aifat Raya is classified as a conflict-prone region, potentially disrupting the 2024 elections in the area.
