South Sumatra Regional, the Palembang Metropolitan Sub-regional Police, local police offices uncovered 123 cases of conventional crimes of theft, robbery and motorized vehicle theft, known locally as 3C crimes, throughout May 2026, recording the arrest of 137 suspects and 331 items of seized evidence.
South Sumatra Sub-rectorate III of Aggravated Crimes Superintendent Muhammad Sofwan Rosyidi explained on Friday (5/6/2026) that aggravated theft dominated with 89 cases, followed by 20 vehicle theft and 14 theft cases.
Evidence included vehicles, documents, mobile phones, tools, and sharp weapons. Palembang recorded the highest number of cases with 37, followed by Lahat (14), Muratara (11), and several other districts.
Chief Sofwan noted that around 60 percent of suspects were repeat offenders. Sofwan emphasized the role of the Quick Reaction Unit (URC) in accelerating responses to public reports and deterring crime.
