Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang.The South Sumatra Regional Police destroyed 397 illegal homemade firearms at the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) shooting range on Friday 3/7/2026), following the conclusion of the 16-day "Senpi  (Firearms) Musi 2026 Operation" campaign held from 12 to 27 June 2026.

South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Dr. Sandi Nugraha said that eradicating illegal firearms reflects the state's active presence in securing the public.

"The results of this operation are quite significant,"he said. "This indicates that the state is present to secure the community... so that people can do activities, work, worship, and go to school safely without fear."

The operation uncovered 32 criminal cases and led to the arrest of 31 suspects. The destroyed weaponry comprised 284 long-barreled and 113 short-barreled firearms, which included 234 weapons voluntarily surrendered by local residents due to increasing public safety awareness.

South Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya added that the disposal serves as a stern warning against criminal elements in the province.

"The South Sumatra Police will not give any room for the circulation of illegal firearms," he explained. "We highly appreciate the residents who proactively surrendered their homemade weapons voluntarily."
