Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A powerful earthquake measuring magnitude 6.5 struck Sumenep, East Java, late Tuesday (30/9/2025) at around 11.49 pm local time, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed.

“The quake, located 50 kilometers southeast of Sumenep at a depth of 11 kilometers, has no potential to trigger a tsunami,” BMKG said in a statement early Wednesday (1/10/2025.

The tremor, with its epicenter offshore, was felt across other parts of Madura Island, including Pamekasan, Sampang, and Bangkalan.

 “Reports from our BPBD forum and disaster volunteers across Madura confirm the quake was widely felt,” said Forum BPBD Madura spokesperson Budi Cahyono, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Local disaster agencies in Sumenep have begun assessing possible impacts, but as of early Wednesday, there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Authorities continue to monitor the situation in the easternmost part of Madura
