Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Karimun Sub-regional Police are investigating suspected food poisoning linked to the government’s Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program after students at two schools fell ill with nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.
“Initial findings show many of the affected students had eaten snacks outside school before consuming the MBG meals. But we are investigating further,” said Karimun Police Chief Superintendent Robby Topan Manusiwa on Tuesday (30/9/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
Police, supported by investigators from the Riau Islands Regional Police, have questioned 15 people including teachers, nutrition experts, suppliers, and students. Chief Robby confirmed the cases occurred at SMP Negeri 2 Karimun junior high school and SD Negeri 010 Parit Lapis elementary schoo, both in Meral District.
While some students reported health issues, most who consumed the meals, including teachers who tasted them first, were unaffected. All students have since been discharged from local clinics and returned to school. Authorities are examining whether the MBG kitchen supplier will be temporarily suspended.
