Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. Surabaya Metropolitan Sub-regional Police have uncovered a prolonged confinement case involving an 80-year-old woman who was allegedly held captive by her son’s girlfriend.
The suspect, identified as LA 931). reportedly defrauded the victim, identified as KC, of approximately Rp 2 billion while deceiving her family into believing she was traveling across Indonesia.
"The suspect is the girlfriend of the victim's own son and was well-known to the family," said Surabaya Police Chief Senior Superintendent Luthfie Sulistiawan on Thursday (7/6/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
He revealed that the victim was kept in a locked apartment in Mulyorejo without communication since October 2025, while the suspect used her ATM cards and emptied her savings to fund a luxury lifestyle.
The victim was so thoroughly manipulated that she initially believed the suspect was a fellow captive. Police rescued the victim on 16 April 2026, after the family grew suspicious of unusual money requests. Authorities are currently investigating the potential involvement of two other accomplices in the scheme.
