Police Senior Superintendent Iwan Saktiadi, Chief of Surakarta Sub-Regional City Police, revealed the deployment of 540 personnel from a joint team comprising the Indonesian Military, INP, and the city government to ensure security during the New Year's Eve celebration or Car Free Night 2023-2024 along Slamet Riyadi Street in Solo, Central Java.
"In safeguarding the car-free night along Slamet Riyadi Street to Surakarta City Hall from December 31, 2023, until the early hours of January 1, 2024, our security forces are fully engaged," he stated during a press conference on Thursday (28/12/23).
Highlighting strategic surveillance measures, he mentioned that 257 CCTV cameras are strategically positioned throughout Solo. These cameras will be extensively utilized during the New Year celebration to proactively address potential criminal incidents.
Moreover, the prohibition of loud motorbike convoys during the New Year celebration in Surakarta has been strictly emphasized. Immediate and uncompromising action will be taken against any convoy disrupting roads and inconveniencing other road users, he said.
Joint forces will secure church worship services in Solo, prioritizing categories 1, 2, and 3 in alignment with Operation Lilin Candi 2023-2024, deploying dedicated security personnel based on operational priorities.
In his appeal to the public, particularly those in crowded places, he urged everyone to stay vigilant, taking necessary precautions to safeguard against potential criminal activities.
