Inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang.  Jarred Dwayne Shaw, a United State professional basketball player for the Tangerang Hawks, has been arrested by Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police ( for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

Soekarno Hatta Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Joko Sulistiono said that Shaw was arrested at an apartment in Cisauk, Tangerang, following a joint investigation with Customs officials into a suspicious shipment from Thailand containing 132 candy packets infused with Delta9 THC (a type of cannabis), totaling 8.69 grams.

“This was Shaw’s first attempt, intended for personal use and possible distribution among fellow athletes in Indonesia,” he said during a press conference on Wednesday (14/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The athlete admitted to ordering the drug-laced candy from a contact in Thailand, where cannabis is legal. Shaw reportedly became accustomed to cannabis use during his time in the U.S. and Thailand and sought to maintain this lifestyle in Indonesia.

The authorities are investigating links to a larger international drug network, with suspicions of Shaw’s involvement in further planned smuggling attempts.

He is now facing multiple charges under Indonesia’s strict narcotics la), with potential penalties ranging from a minimum of six years to life imprisonment.
