Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) revealed that the person involved in smuggling cannabis from Thailand to Indonesia is an Indonesian national working with an international syndicate.
"The suspect is currently a fugitive and likely still abroad," said BNN Chief Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom on Monday (5/8/2024).
He said that the involvement of the suspect, identified as BN, in the international drug network is evident from the 113.65 kilograms of Thai cannabis seized. The cannabis is distinct from local varieties found in Indonesia, confirming its foreign origin, as reported by antaranews.com.
Suspect BN reportedly sent the cannabis from Thailand to other suspects, identified as AS and MM in Indonesia, with the final destination being Liverpool, United Kingdom. The drugs were concealed in 214 packages containing baby equipment, vacuum cleaners, and bed covers.
The smuggling operation came to light after Customs officials at Soekarno-Hatta Airport suspected a shipment from Thailand on 24 July 2024. A joint BNN and Customs team discovered the drugs at two locations: Jaka Permai housing complex in Bekasi, with 60 packages weighing 31.88 kg, and Cipinang Melayu in East Jakarta, with 154 packages totaling 81.77 kg.
