Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Army is analyzing evidence recovered from the site of a deadly ammunition explosion in Garut, West Java, that killed 13 people, including four soldiers.
“Several pieces of evidence have been collected for further analysis by the investigation team,” said Army spokesperson Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana in an official statement on Wednesday (14/5/2025).
He confirmed that 21 civilian and 25 military witnesses have been questioned so far.
The blast occurred on Monday during a routine disposal of obsolete munitions by the Army’s Central Ammunition Depot III in Cibalong District.
Chief Wahyu said that procedures had been followed, and initial detonations in two burial pits went smoothly. However, a subsequent detonation of a used detonator led to an unexpected explosion.
Investigators are now examining the remains and witness accounts to determine what went wrong during the final stage of the disposal process.
