The Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU RI) vows that they will continuously monitor the voting in overseas as the current voting through post in abroad is ongoing. “We are continuously monitoring the situation as of now the vote through post in overseas is ongoing. The ballots that has been voted have begun to be sent and received by the Overseas Election Commission (PPLN),” says the KPU RI Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari in his official statement on Friday (2/2/2024). The commitment of KPU reaffirmed after the institution invites all chiefs and member of PPLN in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the chairman also conveyed that the vote counting for overseas will be held earlier in accordance to the law, due to its wide region. “If it is in the state, we can still monitor it as it is still within our coverage. However, for the overseas election, to reach the voters is very challenging,” said Hasyim. Moreover, the mechanism of voting in overseas has been regulated in the Article 353 paragraph 1 Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. Based on that law, voter is only allowed to cast the vote once. (ndt/pr/nm)
