Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Tuesday (21/4/2026)  that 13 Indonesian citizens survived a devastating fire that razed a floating settlement in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, Malaysia.

According to the Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, they are currently being housed across six temporary shelters in the Batu Sapi area following the blaze that broke out early Sunday.

“The Indonesian citizens are reported to be in safe condition and are being sheltered along with other affected victims,” the Ministry said in a written release, as cited by antaranews.com.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu is working with local authorities to verify if more citizens were affected, as the fire destroyed approximately 1,000 of the 1,200 homes in the area. While over 9,000 residents were impacted, local police reported no fatalities.
