Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. A traffic accident on Jalan Hang Tuah, Pekanbaru, Riau, claimed the lives of a family—father, mother, and child—when a car driver under the influence of drugs collided with their motorcycle on Wednesday morning (1/1/2025).

Pekanbaru Sub-regional Police Chief of Traffic Senior Inspector Alvin Agung Wibawa confirmed that the car driver and a female passenger both tested positive for methamphetamine after celebrating New Year’s Eve at a nightclub.

“We have detained both persons for further investigation. Preliminary findings indicate they were returning from a nightclub before the accident,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The car, speeding from Kulim toward the city, veered to the right and struck the family’s Honda Beat motorcycle. The mother and child died instantly, while the father succumbed to injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

Witnesses described the scene as devastating, with the victims’ bodies covered by residents. The car, a white vehicle with West Java license plates, was overturned and severely damaged, while the motorcycle was completely destroyed.

The two occupants of the car were unharmed and remain in custody as the investigation continues.
