Inp.polri.go.id - Manokwari. The Joint team of the West Papua Regional Police, the Mobile Brigade Section and the Fakfak Police arrested three suspects and shot four others over arson of Kramomonga district office and school as well as the murder of the Kramomonga District Head Darson Hegemur in Fakfak regency, Papua.
"Seven suspects who are on the police’s wanted list were arrested by the joint team on Saturday (9/9) in the early hours of the morning," Police Senior Superintendent Adam Erwindi, the spokesperson of the West Papua Regional Police, was quoted by antaranews.com as saying on Sunday (10/9/2023).
The three arrested suspects were identified by their initials AK, YR and YI while four others, identified as NH, OH, S and N, died after being shot for resisting the police during the raid to their headquarters, which is allegedly affiliated with the armed criminal group (KKB).
"Four on the wanted list were subjected to strict measures for attacking and injuring a member of the police, even though they had been given a warning shot," the spokesperson said, saying that member of the Teluk Bintuni Mobile Brigade Section Police Second Brigadier Hengki Frengki Wonatorey was injured due to the attack.
He explained that the joint team confiscated an active grenade, several machetes, and arrows used by the perpetrator to attack the police officer. Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga has instructed the joint team to take strict action against the suspects for the safety of the police members.
As many 21 people have been put on the police’s wanted list. As many as nine of them have been arrested while the rest are still being pursued by the police.
In recent developments, a joint team arrested three suspects, resulting in one fatality during the apprehension. Two were initially detained, followed by three more after the police issued a wanted list.
These individuals were linked to a plot to burn the Kramomonga District Office and assassinate its head on August 15, 2023. On August 18, 2023, they set fire to the Central Fakfak District Office at 03:30 am local time, with no casualties.
Authorities believe these public facility arsons are connected and urge the 12 suspects on the wanted list to surrender, pledging their safety.
