Inp.polri.go.id - Karawang.  Traffic authorities initiated a situational "open-close" contraflow scheme on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road Wednesday night (18/3/2026) to manage a massive surge in travelers three days before Eid. 

The engineering, stretching from kilometer 36 to kilometer 70 toward Cikampek, was deployed following a 95.59 percent spike in vehicle volume compared to normal periods, with over 387,000 cars heading east via the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate this week.

"Contraflow is implemented based on police discretion to support the smooth flow of vehicles toward the Trans Java region. We are continuously coordinating with the police and relevant agencies to maintain both traffic flow and traveler safety," said Ria Marlinda Paallo, VP Corporate Secretary and Legal of PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol, as reported by antaranews.com

The authorities said that the contraflow was a tactical response to fluctuating traffic density observed in real-time. By opening the lane at 8.51 pm after a brief closure, officials aimed to prevent gridlock while ensuring the safety of motorists heading toward Central and East Java. 

Alongside contraflow, JTT has optimized the national "one-way" policy to accommodate the peak holiday exodus. Travelers are urged to follow field directions and ensure sufficient electronic toll balances to prevent further bottlenecks at gate exits.
