inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the government has implemented a policy of restricting the operation of freight transport for the safety and smooth flow of traffic during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday season.
"Public safety and the smooth flow of traffic during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday season are the government's top priorities," said Minister Dudy in a statement in Jakarta on Monday (2/16/2025).
He made this statement in connection with the implementation of the Joint Decree (SKB) concerning Road Traffic and Crossing Regulations During the 2026 Eid al-Fitr Holiday Season, signed by the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Public Works, and the Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps.
The Minister of Transportation stated that one of the regulations stipulated in the SKB is the restriction on the operation of freight transport from March 13, 2026, to March 29, 2026, on both toll roads and arterial roads.
"We are taking this step solely to protect the safety of millions of people and to ensure that their journeys are safe, smooth, and comfortable," said Dudy.
He explained that the government's decision to restrict freight transportation for 16 days was based on an evaluation of traffic congestion and accidents during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period in previous years, as well as the results of traffic modeling analysis conducted in collaboration with several other stakeholders.
According to data from INP Traffic Corps in 2024, traffic accidents involving freight transportation reached 27,337 incidents, or 10.4 percent of the total national accidents.
In the same year, oversized trucks (ODOL) were the second-leading cause of accidents, with 6,390 fatalities.
The Minister of Transportation emphasized that the policy's purpose was not to restrict businesses, but rather to ensure that public mobility and the distribution of goods could proceed safely and smoothly.
