inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation adds more personnel, supported by Papua Regional Police Mobile Brigade Unit, Yahukimo Sub-regional Police, Criminal Investigation Unit, following the shooting incident of Smart Air. 

Of the 20 people involved in the shooting on February 11, two have been identified and are currently being investigated further.

“According to witnesses and the survivors, there are at least three to four guns used for the shooting. Other assailants were also seen carrying sharp weapons such as spears, bow and arrow, and machete,” says the Head of Public Relations of Damai Cartenz 2026, Senior Superintendent Yusuf Sutejo on Monday (2/16/2026).

Yusuf explained that the type and origin of the firearms are still being identified. In general, the armed group operating in the Yahukimo area is estimated to number around 200 individuals, spread across several smaller groups.

He also emphasized that public safety is the primary focus of every action in the field. This operation prioritizes public protection.

"Every step is carried out in a measured and professional manner, ensuring law enforcement is effective while protecting the lives of people," he explained.
