inp.polri.go.id - Yahukimo. The sound of gunfire suddenly shattered the silence of the Yahukimo mountain road that Friday afternoon. A truck driver nearly lost his life when a bullet struck his arm while traveling to Dekai City.
The shooting incident occurred near Poros Logpon Street, KM 7, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, on Friday, January 30, 2026. Authorities received a report from the public at around 3:20 PM, reporting a shooting near the KM 7 Logpon bridge.
The victim was identified as Jany Trio Mayaut (42), a resident of Jenderal Sudirman street, KM 1, Dekai, and a private employee. At the time of the incident, he was driving a box truck from Logpon to Dekai City.
According to the victim and witnesses, at around 3:00 PM, five gunshots were heard from the right side of the road. One of the bullets struck the victim's upper right arm. Despite his injuries and enduring the pain, Jany continued to press the accelerator and drove towards Dekai in an attempt to save himself.
The victim is currently undergoing intensive care at Dekai Regional Hospital. He is conscious, and the gunshot wound to his arm has received medical treatment. The box truck he was driving was also damaged, with bullet holes visible in the body.
Several witnesses near the scene reported seeing several armed individuals on the side of the road before fleeing into the forest. Based on initial investigations, authorities suspect the attack was carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) from the Yahukimo XVI Regional Military Command (KODAP). However, this suspicion is still being further investigated.
In response to the incident, joint personnel from the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force and the Yahukimo Sub-regional Police immediately moved to secure the crime scene, conduct a search of the area, and collect evidence. At the location, officers found ammunition casings suspected to be related to the shooting.
The Head of 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that public safety is the top priority in every operational response.
"We are deeply concerned about the incident that befell the victim. Authorities moved quickly to ensure the victim received medical attention and that the situation at the scene remained under control. Currently, our focus is on pursuing the perpetrator and ensuring the public can carry out their activities safely," he said.
He added that the security approach will continue to be accompanied by the protection of civilians in vulnerable areas.
The 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to continue implementing firm and measured law enforcement measures, while ensuring the protection of civilians to ensure the continuity of social and economic life in Yahukimo.
