The Head of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Edison Isir, met and discussed with media leaders during the National Defense Orientation Retreat organized by the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (Kemhan RI) at the Kemhan RI National Defense Education Center in Rumpin, Bogor, on Saturday (1/31/2026).

On this occasion, Inspector General Johnny Edison Isir, the newly inaugurated Head of the INP Public Relations Division, introduced himself and greeted the journalists attending the retreat. In the event, he directly talked with members of the press about the strategic role of the media in national life.

Johhny expressed his appreciation for the journalists' journalistic work in building public narratives and educating the public through constructive journalistic work.

"This reflects a shared awareness that journalists have a strategic role in safeguarding national values, democracy, and the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Johnny Edison Isir.

He also emphasized the importance of maintaining press freedom as part of the constitutional mandate in a democratic state based on the rule of law.

"In a democratic state based on the rule of law, the press is one of the main pillars. Press freedom is a constitutional mandate that we must safeguard together," he emphasized.

However, the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police reminded that press freedom must be accompanied by responsibility, professionalism, and compliance with the law and journalistic ethics.

"However, press freedom must also go hand in hand with responsibility, professionalism, and respect for the law and journalistic ethics," he concluded.
