inp.polri.go.id – The name of Turkey officially changed its international name into Turkiye since the application letter submitted by the country to the United Nations (UN) was accepted. Previously, Turkey had submitted a letter to the UN Secretariat General as of June 1, 2022. As reported by Anadolu Agency, the spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric confirmed the receipt of the letter, Wednesday (01/06/22). Dujarric then mentions the effective period of changing the name from Turkey to Turkiye. According to CNNIndonesia.com, the name Turkey has also changed to Turkiye on the list of member countries on the UN official website. The Associated Press reports that the Turkish government is trying to make Turkey known by the name "Turkiye" in global official circles. The name was chosen because it is written and spelled in Turkish. Back in 1923, Turkey declared itself as "Turkiye" shortly after its independence. In December 2021, Erdogan ordered the people to chose "Turkiye" over “Turkey” because it was considered better in representing Turkish culture and values. Erdogan also requested the use of the word "Made in Turkiye" instead of "Made in Turkey." Several ministries in Turkey then started using the word "Turkiye" in their official documents. Even earlier this year, the Turkish government had released a promotional video as a way of changing their name in English. The video shows tourists from all over the world saying the word "Hello Turkiye" at some of the country's top tourist destinations.
