inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The people in the Cempaka Putih can now return to their daily activities in peace after the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police's Gegana Detachment (Detachment Bomb Squad) confirmed that two objects found in a vacant lot were smoke grenades and were no longer active.

The two objects were found by a scavenger while near the vacant lot on Wednesday afternoon (9/16/2026).

Head of the Central Jakarta Sub-regional Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Superintendent Sang Ngurah Wiratama, stated that the Gegana team had examined the objects and determined their type and condition.

"So, based on the results obtained by the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police's Gegana Detachment, it can be concluded that the grenades seized are smoke grenades. The smoke grenades are also no longer active," Wiratama said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/16/2026).

After receiving a report of the discovery of the suspected grenades, police immediately secured the area. The team was then deployed to sterilize the area to ensure the safety of the public.

The two objects were subsequently secured by the Bomb Squad team. Officers also searched the surrounding area to ensure there were no other objects that could potentially harm the civilians.

The person who first discovered the objects has also been questioned at the police station. The investigation is being conducted to help police trace the origin of the two grenades.

Police are still investigating whether the objects were used at the location or intentionally discarded.

"We are still investigating. We don't know for sure yet," Wiratama said.

After the sterilization process was completed, police confirmed the situation around the discovery site was safe. No other dangerous objects were found, allowing residents to return to their normal activities.

The location where the two objects were found is known to be a long-abandoned vacant lot. Meanwhile, the Cempaka Putih Sub-regional Police are still confirming the ownership of the land.
