"Cybersecurity today can no longer be understood as a technical issue or simply handling hacking incidents," said Nezar on Tuesday (1/20/2026).

He explained that cyberspace has now become a strategic arena with a direct impact on public life, from administrative services, health care, social assistance, to the democratic process.

"The main threat is not a large, spectacular cyberattack, but rather the gradual erosion of the system's sovereignty," said Nezar.

According to him, dependence on foreign digital infrastructure, strategic data leaks, and information manipulation risk halting public services and eroding public trust.

"Digital infrastructure must be positioned as a security asset. Submarine cables, data centers, the cloud, identity systems, and artificial intelligence are all part of the strategic arena," said the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs.

Citing the Global Cyber ​​Security Outlook 2026 report, a 34 percent increase in geopolitically motivated ransomware attacks was recorded throughout 2025, targeting digital infrastructure and critical sectors.

Therefore, Nezar emphasized the government's concrete steps, through strengthening the role of the National Cyber ​​and Information Agency (BSSN), to ensure national cyber situational awareness, protect citizen data, maintain the continuity of public services, and safeguard the democratic process.

"In the era of cyber geopolitics, a country doesn't lose because it's attacked, but because its digital space is allowed to be shaped by others. Our task is to ensure that Indonesia's digital space remains under Indonesia's control," he emphasized.
