inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Chairman of the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI), Kamaruddin Amin, expressed his commitment to optimizing the management of community funds, particularly waqf.
Waqf is considered a strategic instrument to support government programs to alleviate poverty.
"This could help us in eradicating poverty and eliminating extreme poverty as it is in line with the mandate of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of Poverty Alleviation and the Elimination of Extreme Poverty," he said, as reported by RRI on Saturday (8/16/2025).
At the launch of the Islamic Education Waqf Movement in Jakarta, he stated that waqf, which has previously been known only for the construction of mosques, schools, or other places of worship, must be transformed into productive waqf. This will enable waqf to be economically beneficial.
"Through this Islamic Education Waqf movement, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will move waqf toward a more productive, transparent, and professional direction. With proper management, waqf can support educational development and community economic empowerment," he explained.
He also emphasized the importance of cross-institutional synergy. He stated that the Ministry of Religious Affairs will strengthen coordination with the Indonesian Muslim Association (BWI), the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), zakat institutions, and other Islamic philanthropic institutions.
