inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs launched the Islamic Education Waqf Movement. The launch was conducted by the Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, in Jakarta on Saturday (8/16/2025).

On that occasion, the Minister of Religious Affairs emphasized that waqf has great potential to support the development of Islamic education.

According to him, education requires not only budgetary support but also public participation through productive sharia instruments.

"This Islamic education waqf movement is a strategic step in realizing the independence of madrasas, Islamic boarding schools, and Islamic religious universities. We want to ensure that Islamic education is not only sustainable but also increasingly advanced and competitive," he said, as reported by RRI.

He further stated that this movement is a movement that starts from within, specifically the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

In his report, the Director General of Islamic Education, Amien Suyitno, stated that this movement was designed as a collaborative platform between the government, educational institutions, and the wider community.

He explained that educational waqf will be directed at developing infrastructure and improving the quality of human resources, as well as empowering research and innovation in Islamic education.

"The potential for zakat is enormous in Islamic education. There is a large number of waqif (people who give waqf) in Islamic education, consisting of students, educational staff, and non-educational staff," he said.

Furthermore, 14 PTKIN campuses offer zakat and waqf management programs, which will significantly contribute to the success of the waqf program for the community. According to Suyitno, this movement also implements Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2025.
