inp.polri.go.id - Riau. The Indragiri Hilir (Inhil) Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Donny Eko Listianto leads the wildfire and hotspot handling effort in Sentosa Hamlet, Gaung Sub-district on Sunday (8/23/2026).
The activity was launched following the Lancang Kuning application that detected 23 hotspots on Saturday (8/22/2026) at Parit 12 area, Simpang Gaung Village on Saturday (8/22/2026).
All locations are located within a single peatland area, with an estimated burned area of approximately 10 hectares.
The total force involved reached 120 joint personnel. This consisted of the police, the military, the RPK PT. MSK, the TRC Sinarmas Group, the MPA, village government officials, and the community.
Officers extinguished and cooled the fires using six ministreakers, one Tohatsu, one Robin engine, 45 hose reels, and several nozzles. Firebreaks were also established to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas.
Donny also directed personnel to investigate the cause of the fires. He urged the community not to clear or clear land by burning.
During field operations, officers encountered several obstacles. These included the distance to water sources, difficult communication networks, and difficult terrain to access the fire.
As of Sunday afternoon, the fire had been successfully extinguished. However, smoke was still emanating from several locations, so extinguishing and cooling efforts were ongoing to ensure it did not reignite.
Donny stated that forest and land fire management must be carried out quickly and collaboratively.
"We continue to work together with the Indonesian National Military (TNI), the government, companies, and the community to ensure the fires are extinguished and prevent a recurrence," he said.
