inp.polri.go.id - Badung. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief emphasized that women are not only part of change, but also have a role to lead it. This message was one of the guiding principles of the 63rd International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Annual Training Conference 2026 in Bali.
This was conveyed by Chief Sigit when opening the international conference on Sunday (9/20/2026). This year, the IAWP chose the theme "Women Leading Global Change."
According to him, this theme emphasizes the importance of women's participation and leadership in various fields.
"Women are not merely part of change, but can also lead it," said Chief Sigit.
He stated that strengthening women's roles remains relevant amidst the challenges for gender equality. In his remarks, he cited the Global Gender Gap Report 2025, which estimates that it will take approximately 123 years to achieve full gender equality.
This situation, according to Sigit, demonstrates the need for stronger women's participation and leadership in various fields.
This spirit continues to be promoted within the police force. In Indonesia, female police officers have been serving since 1948, and their roles and contributions continue to grow. Of the more than 450,000 police personnel, approximately 6.2 percent, or 29,000, are female police officers.
The Chief of Police also mentioned the HeForShe Award he received from the IAWP in 2023. He described the award as not only an honor but also a reminder of his responsibility to continue promoting equality and expanding opportunities for female police officers to develop.
This commitment is also realized through the annual HeForShe Award, which recognizes female police officers who demonstrate outstanding achievements.
Through IAWP 2026, the INP Chief hopes that female police officers from various countries can continue to strengthen their capacity and networks, while simultaneously playing a role in bringing about meaningful change.
Despite coming from different countries, experiences, and backgrounds, female police officers share a common passion for change.
"Together, we empower women. Together, we strengthen policing. Together, we uphold peace. And together, we lead global change," said the Chief of Police.
