Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto confirmed on Monday (10/3/2025) that all active-duty soldiers currently serving in civilian institutions must either take early retirement or formally resign from military service.
Speaking at the Indonesian Police Science College (PTIK) in South Jakarta, he emphasized that this requirement aligns with the provisions of Article 47 of the TNI Law, which regulates the status of military personnel holding civilian positions.
"Active-duty TNI soldiers serving in ministries or other institutions will have to retire early or resign," Commander Agus said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
While he did not specify which officers would be affected, public attention has recently turned to several high-ranking TNI members holding key civilian roles.
Among them is Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, who was appointed as Cabinet Secretary while a major before later receiving a promotion. Another case involves Major General Novi Helmy Prasetya, who currently serves as President Director of PT Bulog while simultaneously holding the position of Commander of the TNI Academy.
The issue has sparked significant public discussion, raising questions about the implications of active military personnel assuming strategic roles within civilian institutions.
