Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said on Tuesday (8/4/2025) the planned relocation of Indonesia’s capital to Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan has contributed to the significant decline in the number of people moving to Jakarta.

Official data show that new arrivals fell sharply from 395,298 in 2023 to 84,783 in 2024, with the number expected to drop further to between 10,000 and 15,000 in 2025.

The governor noted that reduced migration is also linked to more evenly distributed infrastructure and economic development across the country.

“We hope those who come will bring a spirit of peace, harmony, and contribute positively to the city,” Governor Pramono said, as reported by antaranews.com.

Despite the trend, he stressed that Jakarta remains open to newcomers.

The city administration will not enforce operations targeting new residents but will collect data through the Population and Civil Registration Agency. Local administrations are also working with neighborhood associations to ensure new arrivals have secure housing and meet residency requirements.
