Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. A violent clash between rival supporters of two regent candidates erupted in Puncak Jaya on Wednesday (12/2/2025), leaving one person dead and two others injured, police confirmed.

Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Kuswara said the fighting broke out in Kampung Muliambut, escalating into arson attacks that destroyed at least 10 homes in Pruleme and Pagaleme, as reported by antaranews.com. 

Security forces remain on high alert to prevent further violence.

The latest unrest follows a similar clash on 5 February 2025, which resulted in one death, 132 injuries, and 32 homes set ablaze.

Puncak Jaya’s regional election has been fiercely contested between candidates Yuni Wonda-Mus Kogoya and Miren Kogoya-Wendi. With tensions running high, authorities urge restraint to avoid further bloodshed.

The situation remains volatile as security personnel work to restore order.
