Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The House of Representatives (DPR) has called for patience as the nation awaits President Prabowo Subianto’s decision on the proposed Value-Added Tax (VAT) increase to 12%, planned for January 2025.
“There is no confirmation yet. Let’s wait for the President to return,” said DPR Deputy Speaker Adies Kadir on Tuesday (19/11/2024)at the DPR Complex in Senayan.
He stressed that the proposal is under review and will involve discussions between the government and parliament, according to antaranews.com.
Adies advised the public not to speculate about the potential tax hike.
“This is still a proposal. There’s no need for assumptions or unnecessary conclusions,” he asserted.
The 12% VAT increase is outlined in the 2021 Harmonized Tax Law (UU HPP), which was introduced to strengthen state revenue following the pandemic. Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati recently reiterated that the plan would proceed as mandated.
Adies assured that any decision would consider the public’s welfare.
“If there is an increase, it will be implemented carefully to avoid burdening the people,” he said.
Discussions will resume after the President returns from his overseas visit.
