inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Middle East observer from Ibn Chaldun University, Ezza Habsyi, reminded that the United States (US) attack on Iran could be the trigger for a bigger conflict that turns a regional crisis into a global conflict, so it is not just a military escalation.
This is because, he said, Iran is now in a position where a military response is not just a possibility, but a political inevitability.
"In its strategic doctrine, an attack on nuclear infrastructure is a declaration of war," said Ezza Habsyi as confirmed in Jakarta, Monday (6/23/2025).
Ezza said that the presence of US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan has now become a potential target.
Therefore, Ezza admitted that he was not surprised if Iranian troops were on full alert in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for world oil exports.
If the strait access is closed, he believes that not only Tel Aviv will burn, but the entire global market will be shaken by soaring energy prices, inflation, and financial panic.
Thus, he said, direct US involvement in Iran, especially with attacks on nuclear sites, almost guarantees a major escalation in the Middle East.
"A world war is a possibility now, but it is still within the framework of the worst-case scenario and will depend greatly on the next steps of Russia and China," he said.
Even so, if the conflict is not immediately quelled, Ezza believes the chain of escalation could spread quickly, especially if Iran really blocks Hormuz and attacks US bases.
