Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur are closely monitoring a fatal shooting incident involving Indonesian citizens near Tanjung Rhu, Selangor, Malaysia.
On 24 January 2025, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) opened fire on WNI who were reportedly attempting to leave Malaysia illegally.
"The shooting occurred because they were said to resist arrest," said Judha Nugraha, the Ministry’s Director of Citizen Protection, on Sunday (26/1/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com,
One Indonesian citizen was killed, and several others were injured.
The embassy has requested consular access to identify the victims and support the injured. The Embassy also plans to send a diplomatic note urging Malaysian authorities to investigate the incident, particularly the use of excessive force.
