Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan has launched a Special Desk on Forest and Land Fire Mitigation to address Indonesia’s escalating wildfire risks.
"Our goal is zero forest fires through enhanced coordination and proactive mitigation," he said during a press conference on Thursday (13/3/2025)..
As the country approaches the dry season, fire-prone areas have been identified, including Gorontalo, Riau, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sumatra, Jambi, and several regions in Kalimantan and Papu, as reported by antaranews.com.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), peak fire activity is expected between April and August this year.
The task force will coordinate early detection, inter-agency collaboration, enforcement measures, and public awareness campaigns to prevent large-scale fires.
Key agencies involved include BMKG, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and other relevant institutions.
