Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta High Court has increased Harvey Moeis’ prison sentence to 20 years for his role in a massive corruption scheme involving the management of tin commodity trading within state-owned tin company PT Timah Tbk’s mining concession (IUP) from 2015 to 2022.

The ruling overturns an earlier verdict by the Central Jakarta District Court, which had sentenced him to six and a half years.

During a hearing on Thursday (13/2/2025), presiding Judge Teguh Harianto said that the harsher sentence followed an appeal from both the Attorney General’s Office and Harvey’s legal team.

In addition to the prison term, he must pay a Rp 1 billion fine or serve an additional eight months and return Rp 420 billion in embezzled funds, or face another 10 years behind bars, according to antaranews.com.

The court emphasized the severity of Harvey’ crimes, which caused Rp 300 trillion in state losses, including environmental damage. He was also found guilty of money laundering along with Helena Lim, a manager at PT Quantum Skyline Exchange (QSE).

Helena saw her prison term doubled from five to ten years. Meanwhile, Suparta, the President Director of PT Refined Bangka Tin (RBT), had his sentence increased from eight to 19 years. The court also raised the prison term for RBT’s Business Development Director, Reza Andriansyah, from five to ten years.

In a related development, Mochtar Riza Pahlevi, President Director of PT Timah Tbk from 2016 to 2021, had his sentence increased to 20 years from the previous 8 years.

The case, which caused an estimated Rp300 trillion in state losses, remains one of the country’s largest corruption scandals.
