Inp.polri.go.id - Pekalongan. A landslide triggered by heavy rain and strong winds in the Petungkriono district of Pekalongan, Central Java, from late Tuesday evening to the early morning of Wednesday (22/1/2025) has left 17 people dead.

Regent Fadia Arafiq confirmed that 17 bodies have been found, with several others missing.

Flooding in several areas led to the landslide, with Petungkriono suffering the most damage. Local authorities have been working to evacuate the victims, but difficult terrain and road blockages are complicating efforts.

The local administration has requested assistance from the central government and the Central Java administration. Regent Fadia also plans to propose declaring the event an Extraordinary Disaster (KLB).

The Chair of Pekalongan’s legislative council, Munir, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and praised the quick response of disaster relief teams.
