Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and Japan have agreed to expedite the ratification of the Protocol Amending the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA), aiming for its implementation by 2025.
The agreement was made during a bilateral meeting between Trade Minister Budi Santoso and Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) Yoji Muto on Thursday, at the APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW) in Peru.
"We are pushing for the completion of the ratification process, which is already underway in both countries," Minister Budi Santoso said in a statement on Friday (15/11/2024).
The IJEPA, originally established in 2008, will be amended to cover areas such as Goods Trade, Services, E-Commerce, Movement of Natural Persons (MNP), Cooperation, Intellectual Property, and Government Procurement.
As Indonesia and Japan prepare to co-chair the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in 2025, Minister Bud SantosoBudi expressed hopes for enhanced collaboration with Japan. He also announced that the RCEP Support Unit (RSU) in Jakarta will be inaugurated on December 9, 2024.
Indonesia will also participate in the World Expo Osaka 2025, and both countries look forward to advancing multilateral trade systems. Japan plans to hold an electronic commerce workshop in 2025, inviting Indonesia to take part.
