North Sumatra Regional Police has deployed an AW 169 police helicopter for aerial security during the 2024 Aquabike Jetski World Championship at Lake Toba, set to run from 13 to 17 November 2024 to ensure participant safety and smooth operations for the international water sports event.
“This helicopter supports aerial surveillance and ensures participant safety and event continuity,” said North Sumatra Police Director of Water and Air Police, Senior Superintendent Rudi Rifani, on Friday (15/11/2024).
The AW169 helicopter, manufactured by Italy's AgustaWestland, can reach speeds of up to 305 km/h with a range of 702 km and a carrying capacity of nine people or about 1,200 kg. Its Pratt & Whitney Canada PW 210A engine allows up to two hours of flight, ideal for large-scale patrols.
North Sumatra Policet has also prepared nine vessels, including four C2-type ships and four RIB interceptors, with 28 crew members. A total of 1,495 personnel will be deployed, comprising 882 from Polda Sumut and 613 from local police offices, according to antaranews.com
The event includes festivities known as Pesta Rakyat Danau Toba (literally Lake Toba People’s Festival) across four major districts: Karo, Dairi, Simalungun, and Samosir.
