inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia is donating US$30 million to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) to support their humanitarian mission.
"We express our gratitude for GAVI's assistance so far. Now that we have recovered, Indonesia wants to contribute to supporting GAVI's work, and we are ready to donate US$30 million," said President Prabowo in a meeting with GAVI Chairman Jose Manuel Barroso at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday (12/6/2024).
President Prabowo emphasized that although Indonesia's capacity is still limited, this donation is a form of the country's commitment to facing global challenges such as outbreaks and pandemics.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, GAVI provided significant assistance to Indonesia, including 110.3 million doses of free vaccines worth US$684.6 million and various other support worth almost US$1 billion.
President Prabowo also appreciated GAVI's contribution in saving the lives of more than 1 billion children worldwide, including in Indonesia.
"On behalf of the Indonesian people, we thank GAVI and their leadership for their dedication to continuing this noble humanitarian task," said President Prabowo.
