Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia welcomed the adoption of the WHO Pandemic Agreement as a major win for multilateralism as Achsanul Habib, Indonesia’s acting envoy in Geneva, emphasized its significance amid today’s global divisions.
"The adoption of the WHO Pandemic Agreement is a major victory for multilateralism, especially in today’s increasingly divided world," he said on Friday (23/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The agreement, adopted by consensus during the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA-78) on Tuesday, aims to enhance global health systems in pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. It includes commitments to health workforce development, research, technology transfer, and regulatory system strengthening.
Achsanul underlined that negotiations on the crucial Annex, detailing the Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) System, are still ahead. This system aims to ensure fair and timely access to vaccines and treatments, especially for developing countries.
